Ryan (AKA Francis) started playing in bands up in Bellingham, Washington circa '95, helping form a three piece instrumental rock band called Entropy and a five piece by the name of Zermello's Axiom. After relocating back to Seattle several years later, Ryan played with Apollo Generation for a spell, getting acquainted with venues such as Graceland, Showbox and such. After taking some time off for a few things like marriage, family, and work, he joined forces with Southside, a hip hop band originally from Kansas City. Together, they dropped a couple records and had loads of fun destroying such venues as The Crocodile Cafe, El Corazon, The Comet, High Dive, Nectar, and many others.

Inevitably, the hankering for the rock came rambling on back and Ryan decided it was time for a solo project of epic instrumental proportions. Taking from his longtime influences and a few ideas from the past as a catalyst, Ryan started recording instrumental rock music under the moniker Francis vs Francis. To date, FVSF has released two full length albums, Everything & Nothing, and Red Moon.
